The Aquaculture Association of Nova Scotia along with the Nova Scotia Department of Advanced Education is pleased to sponsor a three part training program for AANS shellfish operators. This program consists of classroom training in shellfish aquaculture productivity and HACCP risk analysis, as well as individualized training sessions on standard operating procedure development, risk analysis and risk control plan development. Classroom training sessions are scheduled for November. Individualized training will be scheduled through the winter.

Shellfish HACCP Risk Analysis Training

As presented by Perennia, the HACCP system has been readily adopted internationally as a reliable means to identity food safety hazards and to ensure that they are controlled during production and processing. The principles of HACCP can be more widely applied however to any process to ensure that hazards are systematically identified, assessed and controlled. For example, for aquaculture producers, this system can be used as a means to assess and ensure control of shellfish health, environmental impact or other hazards that may affect productivity or regulatory compliance. The intent of the HACCP training session is to set out the basic principles behind the HACCP system so that producers can apply this system of management to improve production processes on their farms.

This training opportunity is appropriate for all scales of production and all levels of technical knowledge. There is no limit to the number of employees that can attend but space is limited so please reserve your place(s) today.

The sessions are free of charge, and mileage will be paid at 20cents/km. Lunch is provided.
