The Sea Farmers & Minister of Fisheries’ joint conference will be held on October 12-13, 2022 at the Halifax Nova Center. This year’s theme is “Navigating the Future: Quality and Reliability through Innovation” (https://www.perennia.ca/seafoodaans/).
The Aquaculture Association of Nova Scotia’s mission is to support the production of quality farmed seafood in Nova Scotia waters, creating wealth based on a sustainable and renewable resource. The AANS and its sea farmer members recognize the importance of students’ work in assisting the industry to move forward with this mission. In that regard, the AANS Student Awards were established to help advance the aquaculture industry through supporting students that demonstrate outstanding projects related to the aquaculture industry.
Prize for the winners:
$500– first place oral presentation
$250 – first place poster
Who: Post-secondary students studying in Nova Scotia conducting projects related to aquaculture in support of the AANS mission statement (any field – science, social science, engineering, etc.).
Apply by: September 26, 2022
How: Submit your abstract (<200 words) to the Research and Development Manager at rdm@seafarmers.ca. Please indicate if you want to be considered for the oral presentation.
Process: A panel of judges will review the abstracts and candidates will be notified by email by October 7, 2022 to inform students if they have been selected to present a poster or an oral presentation. Only three (3) candidates will be selected to present an oral presentation. Details on poster size and criteria will then be circulated.
Presentations:
Posters will be displayed during the conference and judged on Wednesday, October 12 during the Minister’s Reception (4:30 to 6:00pm).
Oral presentations will be 5 minutes followed by a one (1) minute question period on Tuesday, October 12 before lunch.
Awards: A panel of judges will evaluate the oral presentations and posters to determine a winner for each. Winners will be announced during the conference closing on Thursday, October 13.
